Gravity Bong

Gravity bongs, also referred to as a glass geeb or gb, are powerful water pieces that have been popular for a while. While it's possible to DIY your own gravity bong by cutting the bottom off of a plastic bottle, we don't really advise smoking out of plastic in any form (no matter how nostalgic). Modern glass gravity bong pack the same punch you've come to expect while utilizing safe materials for a repeatable session.

How to use a Gravity Bong

While there are lots of fun styles and colors available these days, most gravity bongs use the same simple principles. Many glass gravity bong use two pieces, an outer "container" that holds the water and an inner chamber that you pull up during your hit to create the pressure. The water acts as a barrier so air can only pass through your bowl when you are lifting up the inner chamber leading to thick and powerful smoke or vapor.

Start by filling up the outer chamber with water (we like to use as much as possible in our gravity bong glass) and then insert the other glass piece. Make sure to not put your bowl on until after both pieces are in the water or the air pressure will blow out your flower! Then just light your bowl as gently pulling up the inner chamber and watch it fill with smoke. Once you've picked up as much as possible (make sure not to pick it up out of the water or you'll lose smoke out of the bottom), remove the bowl, place your mouth over the opening and slowly (or fast) push the chamber back into the water forcing the smoke out into your mouth. Repeat as many times as you'd like!

Types of Gravity Glass

While we'll always like the traditional style for nostalgic reasons, there are lots of cool gravity bongs out there today. We break the two primary styles down into the following categories;

  • Traditional GB - While updated to use glass and safe materials, these traditional gb piece still require you to pick up the chamber with one hand while lighting the bowl with the other. Our favorite traditional style gravity bongs for sale are the classic Gravitron by Grav and the sleek vintage Deco by NWTN Home.
  • Automatic GB - Updated designs like the Stundenglass make the entire operation one-handed by allowing you to rotate the glass chambers to keep the hit going for as long as you want. These are also referred to as a glass waterfall bong.

Gravity Bong FAQs

Are gravity bongs only for combustion?

No! We've had lots of fun testing different dry herb vapes and dab gear paired with gravity bongs for a new tech meets old glass session. When choosing a dry herb vaporizer to pair with your geeb we like to focus on heavy hitting vapes that are easy to use. Wireless ball vapes and Dynavaps are typically our favorites to match with a gravity bong for a thick vapor hit.

Is it easy to clean gravity bong borosilicate?

Yes, traditional gravity bongs are some of the easiest glass pieces to clean due to their separate pieces. We like to soak our bowl + both glass pieces in isopropyl alcohol and then rinse off with water to get everything back to new! Automatic GBs like the Stundenglass are a bit more involved for cleaning due to the increased number of parts.

Why do people like gravity bongs?

Some of the reasons we love to use gravity bongs for our cannabis sessions include;

  • Gravity pipes are super easy to clean
  • Gravity glass reminds us of the dorm dayz
  • By forcing the glass down quickly you can get a large hit all at once which delivers heavier results
  • Your vapor never filters through water like in other glass bongs meaning maximum terp preservation
