What is Heady Glass?

While everybody's definition varies slightly, generally the term heady glass is used to refer to hand-blown glass pieces with some degree of artistic expression or flair. The word "heady" has origins in the hippie movement of the '60s referring to experiences that expand your mind. And while the terminology originated around functional heady bongs and rigs, we definitely think it includes marbles, pendants and other purely decoration items that still express the artist's creativity and unique style .

Types of Heady Glass

For functional heady glass we generally categorize them as either heady glass bongs, heady dab rigs, heady eRig glass tops or heady pipes; although there are lots of subcategories within each of those. For example, within heady dab rigs you'll have recyclers, sculptural pieces, jammers, banger hangers and lots of other fun dabbing pieces. Likewise the category of heady bongs includes beakers, heady tubes, recycling tubes and lots more hand-blown glass perfect for flower lovers.

Other less functional types of heady glass include heady marbles, pendants, pins, charms, and figurines. No matter what type of glass you're shopping for it's always awesome to get a unique piece and support a local artist at the same time!

Heady Glass FAQs

What is a heady rig?

The term heady rig generally refers to hand blown dab rigs or smaller water-filtered glass pieces. However, it's common to refer to any functional and particularly percolated glass pieces as heady rigs.

How do artists create such intricate shapes out of glass?

The glassblowing process involves melting glass until it can be manipulated. Artists then shape and blow air into the molten glass to form it into whatever shape they're looking to create. Operating in extreme temperatures and with a complicated medium we're continually impressed at the amazing creations that glassblowers are able to churn out.
